Definition of Instructional Design

Instructional design is the process by which learning products and experiences are designed, developed, and delivered. These learning products include online courses, video tutorials, learning simulations, etc.  “Instructional design is a complex process that is creative, active, and iterative.”  (Gustafson and Branch, 2002)

My Definition of Instructional Design

Instructional design is the design of an instructional system to achieve educational goals. The teaching design determines and designs the delivery methods of teaching according to the content of the course and the characteristics of the traget audience.

Design Models

ADDIE Model

The ADDIE model is an instructional design methodology used to help organize and streamline the production of your course content.Addie is an acronym for the five stages of a development process: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The ADDIE model relies on each stage being done in the given order but with a focus on reflection and iteration.

  • Analysis: Perform a series of analysis on behavioral goals, tasks, audiences, environment, performance goals, etc. to be achieved in teaching.

  • Design:Curriculum design for upcoming teaching activities, such as curriculum drafting, curriculum system planning, training target writing.

  • Development : According to the designed curriculum framework, assessment methods, etc., corresponding course content writing, page design, and testing.

  • Implementation: Instructional implementation of already developed courses and implementation support.

  • Evaluate: The evaluation of the completed teaching courses and audience learning effects, designers can also improve the courses through evaluation.

SAM Model

SAM is an agile method - meaning that multiple steps are often taking place at once with room for a lot of collaboration with the customer.

Preparation Phase: Gather all the information about the background. Discuss goals with the team

Iterative Design Phase: The team will be rotating through, design, prototype, and review.

Iterative Development Phase: Development, implementation and evaluation will be carried out at the same time. In the process, you can find any errors at any time, make improvements, and have flexibility.

Sample Works

EDUC 544

We went through the of ADDIE model used to our group porject "CSUSB                                                                           Partnership Program Students Visualized Tutorials" in 544. We applied the ADDiE model to our project, to ensure that our project after a complete analysis and design, to ensure the implementation of process. Finally, we also use the beta test to evaluate our project. At the end, our project has been successfully demonstrated through the website. I think through, we have a clearly understanding of instructional design, it will be evey to apply it into our future career.
